When long-time supporter Pen Publishing Interactive approached Ronald McDonald House Charities Wichita (RMHC Wichita) and asked if they could donate a mobile “solution” to their existing website, CEO/Executive Director Susan Smythe was certainly pleased to accept the offer. What she didn’t know was that RMHC Wichita was getting what turns out to be a new approach to mobile web design, and from a local web company that’s been around since 1994.

“We’re very pleased with the mobile site’s unique functionality,” said Smythe. “The site not only adapts per device, but responds per screen size. It’s pretty cool, actually.”

What Smythe is referring to is a new feature of Flipper, Pen Publishing Interactive’s proprietary Content Management System (CMS), or “hybrid mobile ,” as PPI’s owner, Steve Pendergraft, simply calls it. In the case of RMHC Wichita, not only does the mobile site ensure all their Wichita locations are at the forefront of the Home Page so family members of patients can make quick decisions in difficult health care situations, but there’s also a brief “Who We Are,” so families can also get a little more acquainted with RMHC Wichita while en route. “The mobile site does exactly what our families expect it to do,” says Smythe.

“We’ve enjoyed supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities Wichita for years,” said Pen owner Steve Pendergraft. “So we didn’t think twice about asking them if we could donate our services on behalf of their mobile online presence. We’re huge fans of what they do, and the wonderful services they provide to families in need.”
